LUTHER MEMORIAL CHURCH
February 20 - March 13, 2013

In a unique partnership with Luther Memorial Church, playwright Martyna Majok, and forty Chicago artists, Walkabout Theater embarked upon a journey that was questioning, startling, and inherently spiritual.

In this site-specific, promenade-style production, Walkabout Theater invited its audience to revisit church spaces through a guided tour by the character Billy, the church's maintenance man (portrayed by Errol McLendon, conceived by Martyna Majok). Audiences encountered a Diet Club for Women in the church's basement, an Astronaut's prayer from the pastor's pulpit, a young man's burial of his childhood dog, and a car crash seen through the church's window.

From this theatrical event in Luther Memorial Church, ALL RISE explored the particular ways in which we worship, our attempts to connect to each other or something greater, and the fabric that holds us together, a celebration of sacred space and the impressions we make as we walk through it.
